The Environmental & Natural Resources Law Section currently has more than 300 members, representing governmental, nonprofit, and private environmental law practitioners. The section provides a forum for collegial interaction among North Carolina environmental lawyers from all three sectors. Membership in the section is also offered to non-lawyer environmental professionals and legal assistants. The section presents an environmental speaker at every council meeting, and council meetings are open to all members. The section also:
- sponsors CLE programs and services and offers CLE scholarships to attorney members in need;
- provides members with a substantive newsletter and updates members on the latest environmental case law and statutory and regulatory developments;
- has adopted a form contract for employment of environmental consultants;
- provides support to a pro bono environmental law program operated by Legal Aid of North Carolina and thereby offers environmental pro bono opportunities for North Carolina lawyers;
- operates all aspects of a program that awards annual summer fellowships in environmental law to N.C. minority law students; and
- provides input to the N.C. General Assembly on proposed environmental legislation.
